Sanibel Island : Accommodations
Visit: Cabbage Key Inn
Experience one hundred acres of tropical vegetation surround our historic restaurant, inn and cottages. A panoramic view of Pine Island Sound is provided from our front porch atop a thirty-eight foot Indian shell mound. There are no cars here, not even a paved road.
The island is accessible only by boat, helicopter or seaplane. Regularly scheduled boats run everyday from Pine Island, Captiva Island and Punta Gorda. Remote and self-reliant, we do things "the Cabbage Key way," a style reminiscent of the nearly extinct old Florida. During the day many visitors stop in for one of our Cheeseburgers in Paradise. Nightlife is usually defined by a hearty meal in our restaurant.
Shown as Cabbage Key on your charts, we are accessible only by boat. Find at Marker 60.
Our island is indeed a unique hideaway. The main house, now the Cabbage Key Inn and Restaurant, was built in the 1930's by the family of playwright and novelist Mary Roberts Rinehart. The building sits atop an Indian shell mound and the view is extraordinary!
Inn:
The Old House has six air-conditioned guest rooms. Each is distinctive, intimate and tastefully decorated in the old Florida style. Some have fireplaces, all have private baths. The rooms vary in style and accommodations. Check the Reservations page for pricing.
Cottages:
Seven cottages are located among the live oaks and mangroves. Some overlook the water and have dockage for your craft. All are air-conditioned and some have kitchen facilities. Accommodations range from one to eight guests.
Marina:
Immediately off Intracoastal Waterway marker 60, our marina is tucked into the foot of the 38-foot high Indian shell mound that sites our Old House restaurant and inn. It is protected by a huge grass flat on the north and is accessible by our channel with an approach depth of seven feet at Mean Low Water. We carry 6-8 feet of water at dockside.
Cayo Costa is a barrier island immediately to our west. It is only accessible by boat so its six miles of pristine beach offer unspoiled beauty. We can arrange a beach experience you will forever remember.
The local waters are world famous for Redfish, Tarpon, and Snook fishing. Charter services, fishing guides, and boat rentals are available. Things can get very busy, book well in advance to assure we can meet your needs. Call for details and reservations.
